Happy April! and even though it occurred several weeks ago, Happy Spring! but it still feels like winter outside lol. You know that a new month means it’s time for a new self-care focus. For the month of April, I want to focus on physical touch for our self-care love language theme. Much like words of affirmations, I felt like this month’s theme may also be a challenge because how can I possibly come up with seven ideas for the next three weeks that fall under physical touch?!? But during the week I had a brainstorming session and came up with some pretty creative ideas that I think might work. I decided to start the month off with spa day ideas because I think it’s been a while since I gave you a list of traditional self-care ideas to work with. We are steadily moving through these themes and I was wondering if any of you have resonated with any of the themes that I’ve been focusing on for each month. I think it’s possible to fall under more than one theme but so far, I think words of affirmations resonates with me because the purpose of affirmations is to help manifest positivity in your life and I think that’s what I like most about it. Which focus are you vibing with the most right now?
My goal for this month with physical touch will be for you to really connect with yourself on a physical level while working on these self-care ideas. I think we often get so caught up in the busyness of life that we neglect us. Even if we make time for self-care or quality time with ourselves, are we ever really focused and tuned in? In some cases time with ourselves includes watching television or scrolling through social media. Speaking for myself, I can’t recall the last time I ate a meal without having my phone in my face checking out something on instagram or facebook. I’m not proud of that lol. Some of the ideas for this week are activities that we engage in on a daily basis but as mentioned previously, I’m encouraging you to connect with yourself this week while you’re engaging in your self-care act.
Sunday–DO A SCALP MASSAGE I use to try and massage my scalp several times a week for about 5minutes. It’s supposed to help circulate and stimulate the blood in your scalp which also aids in hair growth. I have a scalp massager that I bought on amazon but you can also use your fingers. If you have it, add some oils to your finger. I usually us peppermint oil or jojoba oil. You can do this while you watch television but again, the goal is to try and get your to connect with yourself through physical touch this week with no distractions.
Monday–LOTION I’m assuming that everyone lotions everyday after they take a shower to help keep their skin moisturized but I could be wrong. This may not seem like much of a self-care idea but you can make it a big deal. If you can, use a scented lotion today or switch it up and try a body oil and really take your time massaging the lotion on your skin. Focus on how it feels, what the lotion smells like and the benefits that the lotion is providing to your body. A few months ago I purchased a lotion from Bath and Body Works that I fell in love with it. It’s from their Aromatherapy line and it’s called Energy, the scent is orange and ginger and every time I smell it, it gives me life. You should look into it.
Tuesday–DO A BODY SCRUB I’ve used this as a self-care challenge in the past. I use to do body scrubs every Saturday and stores like Marshalls and TJ Maxxx carry a lot of great options at a really good price. The only down fall to body scrubs in my opinion is, they can be really messy but I love the way my skin feels afterwards. The purpose is to remove dead and dry skin cells from our body and body scrubs also helps improve our circulation.
Wednesday–SHOWER MEDITATION Today’s challenge is also a repeat, but I think this is a really good one. You’re not just standing in the shower meditating, it’s a practice of using the water as a mechanism to wash away stress, tension, and anxiety within the body. If you need assistance, here’s a guided mediation that I found on youtube that you can listen to while you take your shower.
Thursday–DRY BRUSHING I love this and it’s quick and easy, I use to do this several times a week before my shower but it’s been awhile since I’ve done it. I think it’s because my dry brush is not in my face lol if I don’t see it, I don’t think about it. If you don’t already have one, you can purchase one from Amazon or from TJ Maxx. I was not aware of this whole concept of dry brushing until I watched one of my favorite YouTubers talk about it last year or back in 2018. Are you familiar with it? If not, According to self.com “Dry brushing is the process of using a brush with stiff bristles against the skin to help exfoliate dead cells from the skin surface and enhance blood flow.” The little bit I know:
–it helps the body release toxins
–you brush in an upward motion towards your heart
–you should do it before you get in the shower

Friday–DO A FACIAL Today, treat your skincare like a meditation practice and really build a connection with the process. Connect with each step of your skincare routine by focusing on the benefits that each product provides while putting it on your face and neck. If you don’t have a skincare routine, check out my sorority sister’s Mary Kay site, and follow her on Instagram @_therealrhondafay_. She’s extremely knowledgeable when it comes to skincare, you won’t be disappointed. I’ve been using the products since this summer and I noticed a change in my skin within two weeks.
Saturday–TRY AN INTENSE STRETCH WORKOUT Don’t hurt yourself doing this lol, you know you’re body so do what works for you. This idea is a little different but I wanted to add it to the challenge for the week because in most instances when you stretch you have to touch your body. Again, the focus here is to get you to really connect with the activity so while engaging be sure to pay attention to each touch as you engage with your body through stretching. I found a video on youtube that will help you with this challenge. This is pretty advanced so if you’re not flexible you may want to try one that’s less intense.
I hope my attempt at physical touch self-care activities didn’t disappoint. Although most of these challenges are pretty common, my goal was to get you to view each activity through a different lens.
