In keeping up with my self-care theme for the month of March, I decided to provide you with affirmations you can use to help you start your week off right. I think many people dread Sunday nights because it means we are heading into the beginning of a new work week. I imagine that for most people there is a feeling of dread, possibly despair, and maybe even feelings of depression associated with a new week. Let me circle back a bit. I mentioned “my self-care theme for the month of March.” My selfcareatforty followers know what I’m referring to but for those who are new to my blog, since January I’ve had a focus for each of my challenges that I post for each month. I decided to focus on the love languages and for this month, my self-care challenge will be centered around words of affirmations.
But what are affirmations? I define them as a string of positive words we can use to manifest positivity in our lives, it’s also a form of emotional self-care––self-care that impacts our overall emotional well-being. Affirmations are incredibly powerful and extremely effective if used properly. Our words themselves are affirmation so therefore, while not intentional, affirmations can sometimes be negative. We hear it all the time, we attract what we put out in the universe. This is why it’s so important for us to remain positive, even when it feels difficult because I think affirmations really come in handy when we feel defeated. Again, our words themselves are affirmations so even if there are no intentions behind the words, if said often enough, they can manifest. Someone on my social media platform told a story about how she often joked about having conversations with the CEO when she has her weekly dinner with him. It was an ongoing joke in the office for her and after her recent promotion, the CEO asked to schedule quarterly meetings with her. It’s not dinner and it’s not weekly but she still has a standing meeting with this person to discuss issues. Her story was a testament of how powerful words can be. Imagine what could happen if we never uttered anything negative.
While setting up to write this particular blog, I noticed that the title is quite similar to the blog post I wrote at the beginning of the month lol. While the focus for that blog was affirmations you can use to start each day of the week. I wanted to craft this blog to provide you with affirmations you an use to start each week so instead of using the challenges for Sunday-Saturday, I encourage you to use it for Week 1-Week 7. I would also encourage you to repeat the affirmations each day of the week and/or post it some where visible to help keep you motivated.

Week 1–“I CHOOSE TO HAVE A GREAT WEEK” claim it from day one. Instead of dreading the work week, change your mindset and manifest having one of the best weeks that you’ve had in a long time. What would a great week look like for you? Write that down. We can’t control everything so write down how you will deal with bumps in the road or adversities when they cross your path this week. Think outside of the box, maybe having a great week means taking something off your plate or delegating some items on your to do list to others. It’s not possible nor healthy for us to do everything by ourselves all at once. Try to remember that. We often feel so defeated by life but we don’t realize we sometimes put those pressures on ourselves.
Week 2–“I WILL MAKE PROGRESS TOWARDS MY GOALS” this is the perfect affirmation to use for the week if you never get through your to do list or if you have a goal that you can’t seem to accomplish. This week’s affirmation is the universe’s way of pushing you towards getting things (or something) done. Be intentional this week with your affirmation, but I wouldn’t suggest overwhelming yourself by trying to get several large goals out of the way (but if you can, go for it). I also want to mention that small progress is better than no progress, so give yourself credit even if you didn’t achieve. As long as you put in some real effort and tried.
Week 3–“I AM WORTHY OF RESPECT AND ACCEPTANCE” because you are, we all are. I think this affirmation is telling us to stand up for ourselves when we don’t feel appreciated. At work, if you don’t feel valued this week be vocal about it (in a professional manner). At home or in your social life if you feel the same, have a conversation with your loved ones or friends about it. In one of the paragraphs I mentioned repeating and writing down the affirmation. For this one I want you to repeat it to yourself in the mirror each day until you start to believe it. This affirmation is incredibly important for anyone who struggles with self-esteem issues.
Week 4–“I MAKE VALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE WORLD” we should never feel that because we play a “small part” that we aren’t valuable, we aren’t good enough, we aren’t making a difference, or we aren’t noticed. Everything we do, we should do with rigor, humility and pride. We don’t have to run the country or a company to feel valued. We don’t have to be super moms or dads to feel like a great parent, and we don’t have to own a mansion and drive a nice car to feel like we’ve done something with our lives. I feel like everything we do has a cause and effect we are here for a reason, even if you feel your value goes unnoticed. Someone’s watching.

Week 5–“I REMOVE ALL NEGATIVE THOUGHTS” I mentioned earlier about the person I follow on social media who unintentionally manifested a quarterly meeting with the CEO of her company. I followed up with, imagine what could happen if we never uttered negative words. Do the same with your thoughts, try to follow up with something positive if your thoughts are negative. I try to do this often, it definitely takes work which leads me to believe that our minds can really be corrupted by negativity. If you have a mindfulness practice, you can repeat this as a mantra while you meditate each day this week to help keep you on track with maintaining positive thoughts.
Week 6–“I AM ENOUGH” this one never gets old and I think we all need this on some level. No one has it all figured out, we all fall short at times in some area of our lives. I know it’s relevant in other areas, but this particular affirmation makes me think about those who can’t see themselves outside of a relationship, or those who assume something is wrong if people chose to go out to eat (or to a movie) by themselves. It’s okay not to be in the presence of company all the time, we are enough alone and it’s perfectly acceptable and healthy to spend time with yourself so you can get to know you outside of the company of others.
Week 7–“I WILL EXTEND GRACE TO MYSELF” because we are human not perfect. Things will not always work out the way we want it to so we have to extend ourselves that grace when needed. Give yourself permission to be human by allowing room for mistakes and knowing that mistakes inevitably occur occasionally. Instead of beating up on yourself this week when things go awry, be kind to yourself and try to find other alternatives or just simply be accepting and move on.
If you choose to participate in this 7 week self-care challenge, I hope that these affirmations encourages you to start all of your weeks off on a high note with weekly affirmations. As long as we are living, the weeks will continue to occur and even though we can’t control what may happen, we can control how we choose to approach each situation and how we choose to start our weeks. I want to push us all to work on the things we have control over so we can be better equipped to deal with the things that we can’t control.
