Blog-OWEEN: Ideas on How to Trick or Treat During the Pandemic

Blog-OWEEN—one week of inspired self-care ideas (Oct. 24th-31st).  Self-care is creating a platform to help you manifest the life you want to live,  it looks different for everyone.  Self-care is key; internally, externally, and always cooking good food.

I think we can all agree that this has been one HELL of a year, one for the books.  We all want to remain safe but there are a lot of contradicting ideas surrounding this pandemic.  We are only days away from Halloween, probably the best time of the year for most children, for the obvious reasons.  But how can we remain safe? Especially knowing we are dealing with young vulnerable bodies.  In this post I provide several creative, fun and easy steps you can take to celebrate Halloween while remaining socially and responsibly distant.

  • “NO CONTACT” CANDY—leave the candy out on the porch in a container (or set up a small decorated table in the yard).  Make sure the candy is wrapped in individua baggies or some other container like a cup that the trick or treaters can take with them.  If possible, you can include a face mask in each baggie and or a kid friendly hand sanitizer (or hand sanitizer case).  I found several options on Amazon and here is one option for kid face mask.

DITCH THE BOWL—come up with other creative ways to hand out candy.  One example would be a Halloween candy hunt (similar to an easter egg hunt).  This site gives some details on how you can pull this off.

CONSIDER ALTERNATE IDEAS—such as a virtual zoom or GoToMeeting costume party. This would be a perfect opportunity to try out the scavenger hunt games I mentioned in my previous blog post.

DRIVE BY TRICK OR TREATING—similar to drive by baby showers.  This will likely have to be arranged further in advance with others in your neighborhood or surrounding community.  This option is similar to the traditional form of trick or treating except everyone is honoring the suggested measure of distance while they are safe in their cars or yard.

Whichever option you choose (if any) I wish you all a safe and Happy Halloween.  Despite the current challenge we are facing the goal is to stay safe and to think of creative ways we can still celebrate with friends and family during holidays when we traditionally come together as a community.

I have a long history with mental illness. Overcoming depression made me realize my own resilience. It also made it clear that I wasn’t taking care of myself. I believe that in order for us to fully engage with ourselves and others we have to make time for self-love through our self-care habits. My goal with this blog is to encourage women in my age group to make time for self-care daily.
